Free Vaccination and Deworming Clinic in Woburn

The Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) held a free Vaccination, Deworming and Mange Treatment Clinic in Woburn on Saturday, May 4th. The St. George's University Veterinary students sponsored this clinic. Over 80 dogs were vaccinated and dewormed! Twelve veterinary students volunteered for the clinic to help the regular GSPCA management members. The GSPCA wishes to thank the St. George's Veterinary Students for sponsoring the Clinic and volunteering their time to aid in the treatment and care of the animals. The Society would also like to commend the residents of Woburn for taking the time to bring their pets to the clinic to be vaccinated and de-wormed.
The GSPCA wishes to remind all dog and cat owners that their pets need their rabies and 5 in1 vaccines every single year. Pets also need regular de-worming.
Future free vaccination clinics will be advertised on the radio or you can contact the GSPCA at 440-4874 for the location of the next clinic. If you would like the animals in your area vaccinated, you can call the GSPCA and request that a free clinic be held in your village. There must be at least 30 dogs/cats that would be attending the free clinic to qualify.

Steele's sponsors animal clinic on River Road

The Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) recently held an inoculation clinic for animals in the River Road area sponsored by Steele's Auto Supplies and Toyota. A news release from the G.S.P.C.A said that 64 dogs were attended to during the clinic and 90% of the dog owners signed up to have their dogs spayed/neutered. "We will be going through the list and spaying and neutering for the next few months", said Ms. Peggy Cattan. "The people of River Road were very co-operative and seemed to have much concern for their dogs and for keeping the population of stray dogs in the area down". The release said that the GSPCA is very pleased to have the opportunity to get to know the people of River Road and establish a working relationship within that neighborhood. In a letter to the sponsor the Society said "we find that having a sponsor within the community where the clinic takes place is very effective and thank you very much for your help and the use of your premises to hold the clinic".

2001 GSPCA Dog Show

Snoosie, a local Grenadian "pothound" owned by Ms. Lizzie Kaufmann, won the "Best in Show" title at the Fourth Annual Grenada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Dog Show, which was held on November 4, 2001, at the Grenada Trade Center.
Fifty-four canines graced center ring and strutted their stuff in front of an enthusiastic crowd of more than 350 spectators.
While both children and adults cheered on their favorite dog, Barbados Judge, Senator Keith Laurie, examined and scrutinized all facets of the many different breed.
"It was a fantastic day for dogs", said Laurie who volunteered this weekend to Grenada for the past four years. "I always enjoy myself at this event", he said.
With the continued support of sponsors, Friskies Alpo of Bryden & Minors, the Society is able to raise money which helps care for the animals of the island. All the money raised goes towards helping Grenada's animals through many different programs the Society offers to the public, from education to free vaccinations to free spaying and neutering.
From all indications, each year the Grenada Dog Show is growing larger and the events more competitive in the spirit only true dog lovers can inspire.
Event organizer, Peggy Cattan said, "This show is not just based on beauty and breed but how well the dogs respond to their handlers". The motto of the Grenada Dog Show is "All Dogs! All Sizes! All Welcome".
